History of the Wheeler Families in the United States and Canada (Update)

Wheeler home in Mikado, Michigan.
It’s always neat to come across historical photos found by chance. The following came from a Long Point Settlers web site and is the first chance to see the home of our Great Grandparents (Peter and Nancy Wheeler) when they lived in Michigan. They lived here until they migrated to the Bertawan District town of Sibbald, Alberta, in 1911.
One of their sons, William Schuyler Wheeler (1866 – 1884) died from unknown causes at age 18. A son born two years later was given the same name, that being our grandfather William Schuyler Wheeler (1888 – 1940).
More of the history of these families when they first lived in Canada (Several districts in southwest Ontario, including Long Point in Lake Erie), followed by a move to Michigan (Mikado), then back to Canada (Alberta), and finally to NE Saskatchewan. The ups and downs of their lives is chronicled in Trails North and West (The Pioneer Way),which is now available on Amazon.

The following photo is our Great Great Grandfather Richard Wheeler (1824 – 1906) who was born in Canada and died in Michigan. See photo of his 2nd wife, Mary Procunier (photo below).

Below, our great grandfather Peter James Wheeler with his brother David Augustus Wheeler. The fact David Wheeler moved to Alberta in 1905 is a new fact of which I was not aware when writing the book.

The following information also came from the Long Point site. You may note that some of the historical lineage may be in conflict beyond James Wheeler and Mary Slingerland with the information in the Family Tree posted in the Trails Book. As both in the men married Mary Slingerland, it seems only the birthdates are in conflict. Beyond that, and while there may be some conflict in names, it seems we are in the correct family of Wheelers.
